We are proud to work in partnership with SwimEd to offer an intensive, high-quality swimming programme for our pupils.

Each autumn term, a temporary swimming pool is installed on the school site for a six-week block, meaning children can take part in regular swimming lessons without the need to travel off site. This maximises learning time and ensures all pupils can fully benefit from the programme.

Intensive swimming programme – Years 5 and 6

Our core swimming programme is delivered to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils and focuses on:

  • building confidence in the water

  • developing strong water safety awareness

  • learning safe self-rescue skills

  • increasing stamina and technique to swim 25 metres confidently

Lessons are taught by specialist SwimEd instructors and are designed to be inclusive and supportive, helping children of all starting points to make rapid progress over the six weeks.

Impact 2025–2026

By the end of the programme:

  • 64% of pupils in Year 6 achieved swimming 25 metres

  • 32% of pupils in Year 5 achieved swimming 25 metres

After-school swimming club – Year 4

In addition to the daytime programme, we also offer an after-school swimming club for Year 4 pupils, giving younger children the opportunity to develop water confidence and swimming skills in a fun and structured way.

Why this matters

Swimming is an essential life skill. By bringing the pool onto the school site and delivering an intensive programme, we ensure pupils have the best possible chance to become confident, safe swimmers before they leave primary school.
